Student Prerequisites
Basic Yoga Experience
Having some prior experience with yoga asana is highly recommended. Ability to do intermediate or advanced poses is not at all required! We suggest the trainee practice 3-4 yoga classes per week (any level of class) leading up to the training. This will ensure everyone has a solid and steady foundation of the practice and we can explore from a similar starting point.
Health
The trainee should be in good physical condition and consider that these venues require walking up many flights of stairs. Yoga teacher training can require 3 hours per day of movement, so it's essential to be prepared. Our classes are for all ability levels. There are no requirements to perform intermediate/advanced asanas. Classes offered throughout the training will be a variety of strong and gentle styles. Participants are encouraged to participate in activities suited to their experience level.
Dedication + Commitment
Yoga teacher training is intensive and requires dedication of time and focus. Trainee must be prepared to commit to the program's schedule and online coursework. Trainee must expect to be in class, working on assignments and studying for 12-13 hours per training day. We strongly recommend trainees abstain from alcohol/substances during the training and follow an ayurvedic/vegetarian diet.

"In 13 days, you will shed layers, gain insight, learn new skills, lean into fear, improve your confidence, deepen into love, and improve your overall knowledge base about what yoga is far beyond your practice on the mat. It is lead by 3 open-hearted individuals who come from different backgrounds. Annik is a detail-oriented powerhouse, Chel is very compassionate, Enrique has the biggest heart. This experience was created with so much intention, love, and attention to every detail. It was invaluable and I have nothing but praise and gratitude for the 3 teachers, the co-hort I got to immerse with, and this period of time in my life."

"Taking this yoga teacher training was one of the most transformative decisions I've ever made. The program was not only thorough in its teaching but it also created a supportive and empowering space for deep personal growth. The instructors were incredibly knowledgeable, present, passionate, and their dedication inspired me every step of the way. I left the training not only feeling confident in my ability to teach, but also more connected to myself and my practice than ever before. Whether you're looking to teach or simply deepen your journey, I can't recommend Evoka enough."
Alexa Yeonas

-
"If you’re looking for a solid yoga teacher program, Evoka should be on your list! It was a dynamic learning experience with three instructors that all brought something unique to the table. I graduated the program with a new depth to my yogic knowledge + awareness, and feeling confident in my teaching ability. The serene yoga shala, nearby beach, and wellness community offerings all added to the experience. The combined magic of Sayulita, Yoga, Henry, Chel and Annik won’t disappoint."
Jerica Rossi

-
"It is an experience that changes your life, I took the training to deepen my practice and I took away much more; connection with myself, friends and community. Chel, Annik and Henry did a great job in teaching us the basics and traditional aspects of yoga that are not taught in a regular class, in addition to being quite an experience doing it in Sayulita, near the sea, the space, the shalas and the buffet. In my practice and my life I experienced a great change thanks to all the tools they taught us. Everyone at some point in their life must take this ytt with the most beautiful and loving team, 100% recommend that you do it with Evoka."
Fer Cortés

-
“This training was much more than I ever expected. It changed my life because I experienced personal healing and learned a much deeper insight into yoga for living. Annik, Chel and Henry are an incredible team of experienced teachers who are so supportive and professional. With their mentorship, I have a contract to creating online meditations for a major company.”
Alejo Desiderio

-
“What a magical experience. The YTT was what I had hoped for plus more. The teachers are kind and giving. I’ve been practicing yoga for 20 years without truly ‘knowing’ yoga until this training. I was able to connect both to myself and my practice on a deeper level during and after these two weeks. Would definitely recommend.”
Fiona Rahbar

-
"I would absolutely recommend EVOKA for a teacher training. I feel that I received a well-rounded education and was able to dive into the experience as a whole. I feel confident that I am ready to teach and share my new knowledge with the world. I loved all my teachers and learned something different from each of them! I can't wait to go back to Sayulita and visit - what an incredible experience!"
Halle Brown

-
"I am more confident and know much more factual yoga information, such as chanting, yogic sleep, meditation, breath, philosophy, history, chakra energy, sound therapy as well as marketing and personal growth. The 3 teachers, Annik, Chel & Henry bring different styles of learning and coaching. This is excellent for discovery. I will tell many people to do the training, I loved every minute of it."

FAQs
About the YTT
What is the student-teacher ratio?
This will be an intimate training with many opportunities to connect personally with your instructions. We have three trainers, and you can expect a max of 8 students per teacher.
I can’t do intermediate/advanced poses. Do I belong in a yoga teacher training?
Yes! The world needs all kinds of yoga instructors of all different abilities and levels. While it’s expected you have a consistent yoga practice before joining, there is no expectation that you can do intermediate or advanced poses. You are required to show up ready to participate in daily classes. We recommend taking 3-5 yoga classes per week to prepare. We aim to prepare teachers for any level of yoga they wish to teach, whether that’s a class for beginners or seniors or an advanced arm balances workshop. This foundational training will prepare you, and of course, after a two-week immersion, your personal practice will improve significantly.
Tell me more about the 50 hours of required prework (online & self-study).
To make our program more travel-friendly (2 weeks instead of the average 3-4 weeks of a full immersion), we will cover 150 hours of online training at the immersion. This requires you to complete about 50 hours of online coursework. Depending on how far in advance you have signed up, you may need to dedicate anywhere from 5 to 20 hours per week to your prework. DON’T WORRY - if you do not complete the prework assignments before the yoga teacher training immersion, you can complete them at your own pace during or up to 2 months after the immersion ($150 per month fee for program extension). You will have about 2 hours each evening during the immersion, which you can dedicate to your online homework if you need to catch up. But it’s better for your enjoyment and relaxation during the immersion part of the program to complete these assignments beforehand. Note: Your 200-Yoga Teacher Training certificate will not be issued until these assignments are completed.
Can I really earn a living as a yoga teacher?
Yes, you can make back your investment and so much more working as a yoga teacher! Many of our students walk right out of training to get paid gigs. We make sure you are 100% ready to create professional offerings. We also dedicate lesson modules for marketing and business ideas. For just a few ideas, check out my blog post on how you can generate income as a new yoga teacher.
Is Yoga Teacher Training worth the investment?
Absolutely, Yoga Teacher Training is life-changing. Yoga Teacher Training is a significant investment in terms of both time and resources. The expense is reflective of the comprehensive curriculum to prepare you professionally and the personal transformative experience offered by Evoka Sayulita Yoga School and Costa Dulce Yoga School. Consider it an investment in your personal and professional growth. The skills acquired are not just for the mat but for a lifetime. The knowledge gained, coupled with the option for a fulfilling career, makes it a valuable and enduring investment in your well-being and future.
I want to learn how to teach Yin Yoga; what kind of training do I need?
All yoga teachers need to have a 200-hour foundational training. From a hatha-vinyasa teacher training, you can develop and teach various styles of yoga based on your interests, studies, and background. Many 200-hour certified yoga teachers take an additional weekend yin yoga teacher training after they complete the 200-hour training if they wish to specialize and teach this style of yoga. You can also do some self-study in yin yoga to prepare for yin yoga classes. We will be offering a few yin yoga classes during this training and a beginning overview of yin yoga, which is the perfect springboard for teaching yin yoga.
What is Hatha/Vinyasa Yoga? Is this the yoga I should choose to study?
You can think of Hatha yoga like vanilla ice cream. Hatha is a pure, basic form of yoga – from its philosophy to essential poses to breathwork and alignment. From there, you can add toppings and sprinkles, which create Vinyasa, Power, Slow Flow, HIIT Yoga, Senior Yoga, Restorative, and other styles of classes. All of these classes, and likely the types of classes you are taking in your favorite studios, fall under the umbrella of Hatha Yoga. Choosing a Hatha Yoga Teacher Training gives you a well-rounded yoga education and the perfect mix of skills to teach a wide variety of classes.
What if I don’t want to teach yoga classes and I just want to improve and learn more yoga? Can I still do this training?
Many people take yoga teacher training as a means to deepen their personal yoga practice and learn yoga philosophy. While you will be required to practice teaching a short class to complete the certification, there will be a vast amount of content offered that goes far beyond setting up and teaching a class. We just ask that you are open to learning the teaching aspect as well. You will benefit greatly from the information, and who knows, maybe after the training, you might even feel differently about wanting to teach! Remember that this is a training that will prepare you to offer meditation classes, breathwork classes, and other healing modalities, not just yoga posture classes.
I want to become a sound Healing Facilitator, breathwork facilitator, life coach or other type of holistic facilitator, will this training help me?
Yes! The Yoga Alliance 200-Hour certificate offers the foundational skills and knowledge for offering all types of healing modalities. Yogic philosophy, understanding how to develop healing sessions and hold space for others, and professional skills are all covered in this training. You will also learn about the energetic body and the Ayurvedic system of medicine. Once you have this training certificate, you will obtain the Yoga Alliance qualifications widely recognized to further develop healing sessions. We recommend you start with this 200-hour yoga teacher training for the qualifications and then build your skillset with shorter workshops, training, or personal practice in your desired specialization areas.
Is there an option to become Reiki Certified during the training?
While Chel offers Reiki 1, 2, and 3 certification trainings, these are not permitted by Yoga Alliance to be a part of the 200-hour yoga teacher training program. If you are interested in Reiki Certification training, these can easily be added on a couple of days before or after the yoga teacher training. The Nicaragua training has a Reiki Certification Training immediately following the YTT. Keep in mind that Chel’s Reiki Certifications qualify as Yoga Alliance continuing education credits!
About Traveling
ARE Mexico and Nicaragua safe?
In both Nicaragua and Mexico, the tourist areas are very safe to visit.
I have been living full-time in Sayulita, Mexico, for several years and can tell you first-hand that you will not only be comfortable and secure during your stay but also charmed by this safe, small town.
Is it possible to share a room with other students?
Once you sign up, we’ll add you to our student WhatsApp group! From there, you will likely find another like-minded student interested in sharing accommodation at the host hotel with you to reduce costs. Ultimately, determining your accommodation options is completely up to you. There are a variety of hotels, hostels, and Airbnb for all budgets. For those budget-conscious, many hostels in town have dormroom-style options for shared rooms. Additionally, we’ll share local rental and sublet options on the student WhatsApp as they become available. We’re happy to make recommendations and help you decide where to stay.
How much SPENDING money do I need to budget for?
SAYULITA: This all depends on your spending, eating, and shopping tendencies. Your food cost will likely range from $12-40/day based on your own preferences. We will offer affordable food options and recommendations, or if you prefer, you can pack and bring your own food in a cooler each day. You can find a wide range of healthy and affordable restaurants within walking distance of the yoga shala.
Additionally, you may want to invest in activities on your days/afternoons off (there will be two afternoons to explore) or purchase snacks or souvenirs at the copious artisan stalls, markets, shops, and restaurants. Sayulita mainly accepts cash pesos. Most tourists use a debit card while traveling and withdraw cash from an ATM as needed. Another option is to bring cash and look for an exchange, though you get a better exchange rate at the ATM. Most places do not accept credit cards, although some do.
NICARAGUA: As it’s essentially an all-inclusive experience, you’ll just cash for tips and incidentals and you can use credit card to pay for elective services (spa, excursions etc).
Can I drink the water?
Do not drink tap water or brush your teeth with it. However, unlimited purified water is widely available. Ice is also purified, so frozen drinks, cold beverages, and smoothies are safe.
Do you recommend travel insurance?
Travel insurance is a personal choice but can be an important layer of security. Once you begin full enrollment, no refunds will be offered for any reason. Check with the credit card that you book your flight with, as many credit card companies offer trip delay and travel emergency medical coverage. There are also many companies that provide inexpensive medical coverage, such as SafetyWing or IMGlobal.
